Systemic Neuroscience of Sensory Perception

This seminar, organized by Lisa Roux, will address a central question in neuroscience: how sensory stimuli are detected and processed by the body, ultimately determining behavior. The objective of this workshop is to share ideas on the current state of sensory physiology and how it can benefit from a systemic approach. By bringing together specialists from different sensory modalities (vision, olfaction, hearing, somatosensation, and taste), it will foster new concepts and contribute to the extraction of general principles about sensory processing.

The Untranslatables of the Three Monotheisms

This seminar, organized by Barbara Cassin and David Lemler, aims to develop a “Dictionary of the Untranslatables of the Three Monotheisms”, on the model of the European Vocabulary of Philosophies, based on a historical, conceptual, and linguistic reflection on the translation of sacred texts. In a globalized society where fundamentalisms clash, it is necessary to complicate the universal, far from any catechism of values. A good way to complicate the universal is the comparative reading of sacred texts based on the languages in which they are written.[learn more]

Research residencies

Cheating Death

Already a director of short films, Inès Loizillon is developing her first feature film, which will chronicle the hospitalization of a teenage girl who refuses to eat. Seeking to reflect on the perception of the world of a person suffering from behavioral disorders, she develops the idea that anorexia nervosa and cinema share a common theme: questioning, controlling, and obsessing over the body and image. During her stay, she intends to investigate the psychiatrists (François Tosquelle, Jean-Oury, etc.) who have changed traditional psychiatry in France.

The Correspondence between Jean Paulhan and Jean Schlumberger

The goal of this heritage visit is to begin to establish the correspondence exchanged between Jean Schlumberger and Jean Paulhan. All of the letters are gathered in the Jean Schlumberger collection at Les Treilles, comprising 111 original documents for Jean Schlumberger and 188 copies for Jean Paulhan. The immediate goal is to copy the entire collection and begin to decipher as much as possible, the goal being, of course, to establish this correspondence as scientifically as possible. [Learn more]

Olivier Ciechelski

The Book of Prodigies, his next novel, tells the story of Nora, a young, religious woman who joins the police in the hope of bringing justice and peace to the streets of her city. But a tragedy shakes her faith in God and her trust in human justice, revealing a dark side and an unsuspected power within her. This book borrows from the noir novel, the vigilante movie, the fantastic and the Golden Legend, in the hope of bringing together the ultra-contemporary and the immemorial time of myths and legends.

Jean-Noël Orengo

In his project Paris and Nothingness, the narrator calls himself Noël Stavisky and in 1937 became the private secretary of Alberto Giacometti and Samuel Beckett. Very quickly, they became fathers to him. They considered him more of a model than a secretary, and pushed him to extreme experiences necessary for their inspiration: weight loss, tramping, multiple logorrhea… Wanting to be and knowing himself to be a poet, Stavisky benefits as much as he undergoes their influence, from which he often violently detaches himself… this collaboration will nevertheless allow him to create an impossible work uniting writing, sculpture, painting and staging.[lean more]
